USB Keyboard for X40 works? and external LCD monitor

#1 Post by red bioroid » Fri Oct 13, 2006 3:40 am

I'm wanting to hook up a USB keyboard to my USB hub(external mouse also hooked up) and also a 20inch LCD display with about 1600x1000 resolution.

Will I be able to power on my X40 , close the lid and use the external USB KB and mice with the LCD monitor? An USB KB recommendation? I'm hoping to use more display space at home.
Feb 2008=Thinkpad X61s; 2x faster than X40 but not as asthetic.
Dec 2005=Thinkpad X40; perfect, but bigger than 240x.
Jan 2005=Thinkpad 240x; used; fast but dead pixels doomed it.
2003=Thinkpad 240; used,
1998=new Toshiba Tecra 740CDT. Pricey, heavy & last 5 year.

for my x60s, i just go into the power settings and just set "no action" for when closing the lid which allows me to use an external mouse, keyboard, and speakers while the lid is closed

Wouldn't it be better to set the Thinkpad Configuration for the LCD to off and Exeternal monitor on.

I guess there is no way to also turn on the computer hooked up to the external monitor without opening the Laptop...

Yes, once I hooked the LCD monitor, the X40 was smart enough to auto-detect the resolution of the LCD monitor. Pretty cool then. All I had left to do was install the monitor drivers and color profile and that was it.

Last, do you have a recommendation on a USB IBM keyboard or by Microsoft that will work hooked up to a usb hub. What about USB Speakers? will they sound as good on usb?
