X40 keyboard problem
X40 keyboard problem
I recently bought an IBM X40 while on vacation on Taiwan. After browsing several stores, I finally decided on the 2371-AV0 model. Aftering returning to Canada, I discovered a slightly annoying problem with my keyboard. Every time I press the letter C on the keyboard, it has this flex (dent-like) and a slight popping noise is heard. Does anyone else have this problem? Is there also a China and Thai keyboard versions in the X40 machines that I can order? Thank you, guys!

You know, it's funny that you should post this. Mine just started to do this about three days ago (for me, it's the left ALT and CTRL keys). Have had it for four weeks and has already done one round the world trip with no problems.
But, mine doesn't do it all the time. In fact, right now, when it's cold (both the machine and in the house), it's not doing it. As it warms up, it may. I haven't really looked for that pattern, but seems what it is.
In fact, last night I was searching around the T forum because I seem to recall someone saying they placed a small amount of padding underneath their keyboard. I have a friend in town here who used to be an IBM tech (and they still call him if they need him for an urgent housecall) and told him I may get him to open it up.
Bottom line: haven't found it enough of an issue to call IBM just yet, but I'm watching it like a hawk.

mine started to do this a month ago. never got around to calling IBM. eventually it went away and it's pretty sporadic now. i "fixed" it recently by tightening the front-most keyboard retainer screw, but the root of the problem seems to be that the keyboard is warped slightly. if it bothers me again i'll probably call it in.
