x30: Inserting pc card shuts computer off

My X30 is (you guessed it) 2 weeks out of warranty.

I now find that when I insert a pc card into the slot the computer shuts down....goes black....no bsod, just immediately 'off'.

I've tried several different pc cards with the same result.

I am running win xp pro sp1.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this, and what a possible remedy might be?

My X31 occasionally just powers off when I dock it (into the media slice). Won't even respond to the power button -- I have to take the battery out and put it back in to get it to turn back on.

I have no clues, though.
