I am stuck. The wirelessdriver and the access connection has run into something that has stopped them from working. I have removed the acc.con. but I can't do anything regarding the wireless driver. This one is on my system:
802.11ab, 802.11bg and 802.11abg Wireless LAN Mini PCI and ThinkPad 802.11abg, ThinkPad 802.11bg Wireless LAN Mini PCI Express 4.1.102.133, 77WC36WW
When I try to upgrade this it stops due to a missing file at 31% and if I try to remove it it stops as well.
Any ideas on what I can do? Nasty things like manipulating the registry will be ok, but a complete recovery of the system is out of the question.
I do have a full back-up (Acronis) from just before the problem but I am uncertain what it will do to the HPA if I restore the partion (drive C).
Can neither upgrade nor remove the wireless driver
I have always been able to remove and replace the wireless NIC driver as follows:
1. Make certain you have the new driver for your specific card on the computer and exploded into C:\Drivers where you can find it.
2. Right click on My Computer, Select Manage, Select Device Manager, and locate the wireless NIC driver. Remove it.
3. Restart the computer and when it says it found a new device, stop it and point it to the folder where you saved the new driver. Sometimes I stop the process and then locate the new device myself with the Add Hardware Wizard.

Thanks this reminded me of why it is a bad idea to get used to automation. I didn't even have to remove the old driver.
Still the access connection does not work as supposed, but I'll play with this matter later.
So I've taken some time to play around. When I use the manual way to upgrade the driver I does not update the version number in the registry. I honetsly don't know if this is the problem, but despite I do run the latest driver, I can't get Access connection to work. It runs, but finds nothing.
SO I am still stuck with regarding to acc.con.
