hot swappable x4/x40 batteries? question

#1 Post by phr » Fri Dec 01, 2006 4:22 am

I'm wondering if it's possible to hot swap either the x40 8 cell battery or the x4 ultrabase slimbay battery, or maybe that other extended battery (that mounts on the bottom of the x40) that they have.

That is, say I have two 8 cell batteries (one attached to the x40, the other a fully charged spare) and I also have the ultrabase battery attached to the x40. Is it possible for me to swap the two 8 cell batteries, keeping the x40 powered from the ultrabase battery instead of having to shut off the computer?

Thanks.

i really dont think so.

both ultrabay bat and the extended bat are providing power via docking conector. you would have to detach the ext bat or the docking in order to detach the latches which hold the 8 cell bat...so when you do that no power...

i know would be lovely to be a built in battery to provide power for max 10 seconds... wish that too!

My 770X has exactly that, a small internal battery that keeps the machine running long enough to let you swap batteries. It also has a 1280x1024 screen, 8Mb dedicated graphics card, full titanium case, digital audio out, s-video and composite video in/out, hardware volume control and the best Thinkpad keyboard ever. Too bad it's a PII and weighs a ton - but just shows newer isn't always better!
