Update again--Keyboard hang details

#1 Post by gtphill » Mon Dec 04, 2006 4:02 pm

I am now putting all the details in the first post. The middle steps don't matter now that the details are clear.

My X40 ends up deader than a post at POST due to some sort of keyboard glitch. Reseating the keyboard connector, or repeatedly rebooting (warming up?) the computer seems to make the keyboard work.

It seems that any time i get out of the windows environment the keyboard goes on the fritz (like my attempt to reflash the bios).

If the keyboard is glitching, the hard drive clams up, too. It gives a "disk read error--Pres ctrl+alt+del" to restart error. There is, of course, no error with the hard drive (I checked it in PC doctor).

The keyboard works sometimes to cntrl+alt+del, and sometimes it does not. The power button always seems to work, and I usually press F1 to get to the bios password screen, but then it freezes solid...

I am planning on re-flashing the BIOS and embedded controller, to see if that has any effect.

Does anyone in metro atlanta have a spare X40 keyboard I can try? Thanks!

Have you tried removing the CMOS battery to erase the BIOS password?
