I agree that using a regular small backpack and a neoprene sleeve may be the best solution. I keep my X30 in a Crumpler 12-inch sleeve, which offers very decent protection, and slip in an old Tenba shoulder bag or (depending on the situation) a small backpack. AC adapter and small accessories go in small bags in corners of the pack; I have an external DVD burner that can fit in a typical 15- or 20-CD sleeve (after taking out the CD sleeve interior of course). I find it more practical to carry stuff like the AC adapter etc. separately, as typical laptop cases with special compartments for these tend to be much too large and indeed you lose the portability advantage of having a small subnotebook.
Another advantage of using a sleeve in a non-laptop backpack or shoulder bag (preferably a bit worn and sloppy looking) is that it is far less obvious that you are carrying something worth stealing. You can avoid the usual laptop bag/backpack brands that can be recognized from a mile away. For extra protection, you can always add a piece of closed-cell hardfoam in de bottom or back of the outer bag or pack. I have 1 cm of such foam in the bottom of my Tenba, so it will offer some extra impact protection in case I put the bag down or shove it a bit hard.
For the neoprene sleeve I can really recommend the Crumpler. No frills, nice thick neoprene, enormous zipper, and a good fit.
