X41 with external widescreen...

#1 Post by doug78 » Tue Dec 12, 2006 3:43 pm

I'm a newbie here! Just ordered a new X41 from Lenovo, but I have a question that may be a dealbreaker. Can I run the X41 on an external widescreen monitor, specifically the Dell 2007 WFP 20", with 1680x1050 resolution???? I totally forgot that the X41, being a normal 4:3 ratio, may not be able to do this. Will be connecting via VGA on Ultrabase X4. Any help would be wonderful!! I have researched this some on this site, but nothing up specifically what I was looking for.

Hope it will help you:
Can an X40 support a wide-screen external display?

Can someone post *exactly* how they were able to get this to work? I followed the other thread with BNA's post, but his instructions do not work. Here's my setup:
  • Thinkpad X40 (unknown BIOS revision)
  • Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller (driver version 6.14.10.4384)
  • Dell 2405FPW external monitor (1920x1200)
  • analog VGA connection to Dell
Following BNA's instructions to the letter, the highest resolution I am offered is 1600x1200, not 1920x1200. None of the lower resolutions are widescreen aspect ratios.

I suspect this is a restriction imposed by the BIOS, as discussed previously.
