New Atheros Card on X41
New Atheros Card on X41
I'm looking to upgrade my wireless card and I can't figure out if my X41 has a miniPCI or a miniPCIe slot for the card.
I was thinking about one of the two cards below:
http://www.oxfordtec.com/us/p113/GIGABY ... _info.html
http://www.oxfordtec.com/us/p106/GIGABY ... _info.html
My Netgear router uses the Atheros Super G chip, so I'll be able to get pretty good speeds. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to hack the bios or something to get the new card to work, and/or if the current software installed for managing the existing card will work on the new one.
Thanks!

Re: New Atheros Card on X41
Look for a mini cpi card and yes if you get a non IBM card you will need the hack.Dizzy149 wrote: I'm wondering if I'm going to have to hack the bios or something to get the new card to work, and/or if the current software installed for managing the existing card will work on the new one.

Okay, I got the card, and I downloaded the no-1802 CD ISO from http://www.command-tab.com/2006/02/26/u ... less-cards
I took the old card out and tried the boot disk. I entered the no-1802 command, and it skipped a couple lines and I got the DOS prompt again. I dropped the new card in, and I'm still getting the 1802 error.
Can someone help me out?
Thanks!

According to http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... twork_card
The X41 isn't compatible with the no-1802 fix.

Not only doesn't the hack work, but I've purchased cards right from IBM that didn't work (gave an 1802 error)! The X41 is a very picky machine in my experience. I don't know what makes some cards work and some not, but as I've stated elsewhere I've actually taken a working card from one X41 and when placed in another I got an 1802 error! IBM hasn't been able to explain that either. Buy your card from IBM or Lenovo. That way you can get free exchanges should there be an issue.
