Anybody installed from recovery CDs via Network Boot or PXE?

#1 Post by jumpmonger23 » Wed Sep 08, 2004 2:24 pm

My HD died on a flight, but Big Blue has the new HD in my hands 1 business day later. Nice. The next delimma, before I spring for a media slice, or buy a external CD, has anybody installed or recovered from CDs using a network boot (using a CD-ROM on another computer)?

What are my other (lower cost) options for this?

By the way, I was rather disappointed that the HD could die so soon, I've had it for about 10 months, use it sparingly, and never leave it on longer than I need to. Anyhow, any help/comments?

I am interested in this too as I am in the same situation. Please post your findings whether successful or not.

How about a PCMCIA or parallel port CDROM (Microsolutions backpack bantam). I have one of these and am thinking of doing the same but I suspect you'd need driver..... which would require an OS......... which is what we're trying to install..........

It's several years later, but do any of you know whether it is possible to use the Recovery CDs through a PXE LAN boot?
