X41 Tablet - Battery recognized but doesn't work!

#1 Post by jonnnny » Wed Jan 03, 2007 3:59 pm

I got an original 9-cell IBM battery for my X41 tablet.

When I first put it in, the battery light lit up orange indicating it was charging.

In the power manager, the battery is recognized, everything is fine, 0 cycles, max capacity is above design capacity.

When I unplug the AC, the unit just shuts off instead of going to battery like it does with my 4-cell.

I can't turn on the computer with just the 9-cell either.

I saw this on the Lenovo site and tried it but didn't work:
System does not operate though the battery is fully charged
The surge protector in the battery might be active. Turn off the computer for one minute to reset the surge protector; then turn on the computer again.
Does anyone know more about this surge protector? Can it be accessed manually or through software, or does anyone have any other idea of why this is happening?

Thanks
Jon

The same thing happened with the X41T I just got. Brand new machine, but it wouldn't power up on the 9-cell battery, and wouldn't run off the battery if I tried unplugging it. I tried the battery maintenance, but that didn't work either. I called up Lenovo, and they are sending me a new one. I'll let you know if that fixes the problem, you may have a defective battery.

Just wanted to update. I got a new battery from Lenovo, and it fixed the problem. Everything works great now. Looks like your battery might be defective.
