How to get rid of 1802 error on X41

#1 Post by Dizzy149 » Tue Jan 09, 2007 4:53 pm

I purchased a new Atheros based miniPCI card and when I tried to install it, I received the 1802 error.

I downloaded the no-1802 patch and tried it, but according to http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Problem_w ... twork_card the no-1802 patch doesn't work.

Has anyone successfully changed out their wireless card on an X41? How did you get around the 1802 error?

Thanks
Sean

Does anyone have a clue how to do this? Or am I just screwed and I should return this thing?

mmm, I think your quest for 108mbps wifi will elude you for a while longer.

Until someone figures out a way to do it [on the x41], you're stuck with standard IBM hardware.

Did you try the no-1802 CD? I know one person reported that it didn't work but I think it would still be worth a try. It worked beautifully on my X31 ...

X41's are the pickiest Thinkpads I've dealt with on these network cards. I've even called IBM and ordered them while telling the order-taker the problems I've had in the past getting X41's to accept most ANY network card other than the exact one that was installed at the factory, and when the card arrives of course it doesn't work! Another 1802 error. Then I call again and start all over. Eventually I get one that works. Why one works and others don't is a puzzle to me. I can even take one out of a working X41 and place it in another X41 and get an error! Oh, and no "hack" I've come across works.

Good Luck.
