New owner x41 Tablet, i have some problems and questions !

#1 Post by lazarini » Wed Jan 10, 2007 4:00 am

Hello all,

i never owned an tablet before so pardon my excitment i got a great deal on an second hand x41t - 1866 6SG and i took it.

now what im facing :

1. First the previous owner lost the pen i know there is an option to order from lenovo if there are some better prices oin the web please let me know.

2. When i recived the machine i noticed that none of the buttons on the panel worked, after some reading here i checked the sistem and noticed that the system instaled is an normal windows XP and not the tablet edition. I wonder now when i get the pen i can not use it ? Or if there is a posibility to add the tablet features to it or i need a clean install of the xp tablet edition 2005. As the machine came with no cd of windows only with serial on the bottom of machine for xp tablet 2005 what can i do now, how to get the win tablet 2005 on cd so i need to pay is my key lost ???

3. When i was playing with the machine yesterday it poped me a black sign telling me that my battery can only be charged till 77 percent of full charge (have the 8 cell model) can this somehow be fixed or thats normal ?

4. And yes i dont have the external cd dvd rom som how can i install . i have an external hd on usb 2.0 well kinda as its an ipod but this probabaly dont help or does it ?

This for now im looking forward to answers thx in advance.

Regards Laz

2. Look underneath you laptop and check for what kind/version of windows that you've got a license for. If it just says Windows XP Professional, then that's what you have.

If it says Windows XP Tablet Edition, then you must've gotten restore cds from the guy you bought it from? Use those to install Tablet edition.

If you haven't got the restore partition or restore cds then you can call ibm support and ask them to send them to you. Sometimes this cost, sometimes it's free.

You also have the restore partition. You can press the "Access IBM" button on your keyboard when booting to restore your laptop to factory defaults.

3. Batteries degrade over time. 77% capacity is an ok battery, you can marginally improve it by running battery maintenance. This is normal.

4. Well... you probably will need an usb-cdrom/dvd to install or recover your laptop. I haven't got a solution for that though ;)

Seneca thx for this info.

i have checked the bottom of my x41T and it there is an xp tablet edition sticker with key so i guess previous owner deleted it and instaled normal XP professional .

I did not recive the restore cd s so i cant do that ...

on the other hand is that the only way to check for that partition by pressing the acess ibm button ... at the moment im at work so i will have to try latter home ...

On the external cd i have a question i own 2 more ibm laptops t41 work machine and an older t23 now my question is can i use those cd s to install xp tablet in order to conect my tablet wia lan to t41 and boot ower lan from t41 cd rom ?

you must contact ibm/lenovo in your country and give them your serial number [of your X41] and ask them to send you "factory restore cds".

And in order to use them, you will need to buy/borrow an external dvd/cdrom.

If you're familiar with downloading torrent files you can find a copy of Windows XP for Tablet PC online and download it and use the original registration key on the bottom of your machine to register it. You're still going to need an external CD drive or docking station to install it. Once you get it up and running you can then go to IBM's website and download all the drivers and tools necessary to get it back to factory new condition.

That will not work. I've tried using winxp sp2 sve oem with my oem key.

It will install but not activate.

It really sucks....

Then log on to Windows Update and download their Activation program and run it and that should solve your problem. Give it a try. Don't try to activate it online, download their activation program. Worked for me.
