IBM X30 Motherboard & Security Chip

#1 Post by besh010 » Wed Jan 17, 2007 5:51 am

Hi All

Wonder if anyone can help...

I have an IBM X30 and my motherboard recently died on me. I have found someone who can supply me with a motherboard but there is a slight catch...

The current motherboard on my laptop has a security chip and the motherboard I might be buying does not have one...

If I get the replacement motherboard and add my security chip to it will it work ???

Or what will happen if I get the replacement motherboard and do not install a security chip, will my laptop still work?

Not too sure what the job of the security chip is :( so any help or advise will be appreciated...

Thanks,
Besh.

That probably will be involve in soldering and stuff so there are risks in volve. Are you saying the new motherboard is password protected in the bios?

I don't see the point of switching a security chip...
I love thinkpads
