Bootable device for X22? Needed for disk repair.

#1 Post by gpvillamil » Mon Sep 13, 2004 10:15 am

Hi there, I have an X22 which is showing some intermittent problems with the hard disk. The error message is "Disk Read Error, press Ctrl-Alt-Del to reboot" upon startup.

I want to clone the disk to another using something like Acronis TrueImage. However, I do not have the media slice, so no floppy or CD-ROM drive.

What other devices work to boot an X22? Can I use a USB keychain drive? Any info on which USB CD-ROM drives are bootable?

Thanks - however, it seems that the X22 can't boot from a USB key. (I have the IBM key).

that's interesting - is this so even with updated embedded controller and bios?

Don't really know but tis may work:

I have an Adaptec USB2Connect PCMCIA card (I'm guessing you have the slot for it) that I use to connect to my external USB2 HDD for backups via a Trueimage boot CD in the UltraBay 2000.

Perhaps an external USB2 CD-Rom connected via the PCMCIA card may be bootable, I don't know though.
