Generic replacement battery.

I received a generic replacement battery I ordered for my x40 today. The battery doesn't quite fit. It seems to me the battery is rather poorly made compared to the already badly degraded original. I think I can make the battery fit my scraping off some plastic but I want to know how dangerous these cheesy 3rd party stuffs can be first. If anyone has experience with these cheap replacements please share some information.
