x31 video card test, blue screen

#1 Post by boon » Sun Feb 11, 2007 12:28 am

I ran pc doctor for windows and I usually get blue screen of death when I run test on wireframe line and fixed transformation and lightning test.

Is my video card having problem or unless the ati 7000 doesn't support direct 3d?
I love thinkpads

Hm. are you underclocking that bad boy with NHC, or is this a stock machine?

Usually, I would not fret over it as it could simply be crap ATi Radeon drivers...although, stress the video card out using 3DMark2001SE and see if it brings your machine down. If it does, it COULD be something GPU related.

in addition to the below check points, you should consider a bad gpu contact. the x31's gpu uses a bga(ball grid array) type solder. if the board is flexed over time, there is a chance that the contacts became loose and this will cause video garble and intermittened bsod. you can check by physically applying pressure on the chip (by means of sticking post its in between the keyboard and heatsink.)
