Yes; you need Windows XP Tablet Edition.

You can purchase a recovery disk set from Lenovo for the X41T that will restore the unit to the original factory preload of WinXP Tablet Edition.

Boot from the first CD in the set and then follow the prompts. It will take a LONG time and require several reboots but in the end you should end up with the tablet as-shipped from the factory. You then would need to go visit Windows Update and restore your personal files, etc.

So I take it that there's not vista tablet edition? I might be game to buy the tablet - presume I'm limited then to xp on the X41?

Vista includes support for the tablet in all editions except Home Basic, and tablet support is better than XP Tablet Edition.
