X40 LCD seeing pixels?

#1 Post by r00 » Wed Feb 14, 2007 1:34 am

Is it just my LCD or is common to actually see the pixels on X40s?

What I mean is the screen almost has a grainy look to it and on certain colors such as orange they stand out even more. It almost like I can count each pixel... I don't undestand why. I had an X23 a year back and I don't remember the screen being like this. It's not to the point where I need a new LCD but something just doesn't seem right here.

Do you think the screen is going?

I would try these steps first:

-Check Windows Update to make sure you have the latest driver.
-Adjust the display settings in Control Panel to see if that makes any difference.

Are you running your X40 on its native resolution, or have you reduced it for better viewing?

I'm running at the native resolution and I've updated the video drivers and it still looks the same. I guess I'm just used to the last laptop I had with a WXGA 1280x800 screen that was glossy...

I'm assuming you're talking about a screen-door effect? I'm not seeing that on my X31, which is likely the same LCD panel.

Could you take a photo of your screen, showing the effect, and post it?

That's exactly what I'm talking about! It does indeed look like a screen is over the screen. Now either I'm just looking to hard or the X40 screens aren't as crisp?

Since I don't have the best camera this is the best I can do. Granted it 's still a picture of a picture.

I would only guess at that the cause of THAT (from your picture) but I don't think it's the LCD. Whatever it is it's not normal at all. If you X40 is under warranty I'd put a call in right away. My screens have never looked that bad even when I've taken too many pills!

Apparently it's still under warranty until April! With an LCD replacement will they ship me a replacement LCD or would I actually have to ship them my laptop?

Are you running 16-bit or 32-bit colour depth here? I'll try to take a picture of my X31 screen tonight to compare ...

It's on 32 bit. The thing is, I don't believe it has to do with drivers or software related. When I boot into the BIOS I see the same thing. I called up IBM and they said they would have a tech come to my house and fix it. Do they really do this?

I'm almost never home and I'm assuming since it's not THAT noticable will they still replace it?

Could anyone here take a picture of their x series laptop LCD with something orange on the screen?

On certain colors like orange and green the pixels just stick out so much and don't show up as solid colors.
