Install a "clean" windows to increase speed?

#1 Post by bushkerry » Sat Sep 18, 2004 2:17 pm

First of all, thanks for a truly great forum. Best out there.

Do any of you know if formating the hd, and reinstalling windows from a oem cd would increase boot time and regular performance, compared to just using the hidden recovery partion?

Do any of IBMs spesial features slow down the system?

BTW, I am talking about an X40.

Boot time is vastly less important than performance. I have T41 that boots fully in 2.5 - 3 minutes. That includes:

* Networking
* Firewall
* AntiVirus
* Cache Sentry
* Access Connections (auto finds current network)
* NetScreen Remote
* Ultra Nav Driver
* FreeMem Pro
* Microsoft Office
* All of Windows and IBM Services

All of these things have been tuned and once running, the machine is *very* fast. The 7200 rpm Hard Drive helps as well.

There is nothing in the list I don't want and the boot time doesn't fuss me.
