X series battery life q's

#1 Post by alfio » Thu Mar 01, 2007 2:07 pm

what's battery life like on X31s, X30s, X24s, X23s, X22s? not being too familiar with the X series, are there similar battery options as on the T series (i.e 6 or 9 cell)?

i'm interested on battery life figures on either linux or on XP. thanks

In Windows 2000, I can get about 4 hours on my X23 on max power conservation. Linux is generally a bit less (can't remember exactly how much, though.) I'm not sure about extended batteries for the X series, perhaps someone a little more knowledgeable could fill us in on that.

It's a little bit of a complex question, as there are lots of different models and battery life variables (power mode, battery type, NHC CPU voltage settings, wireless, display brightness) -- and battery condition!

You can find the factory specs here:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... awbook.pdf
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... twbook.pdf

X series (apart from X4 and X6 models) only have one standard battery size, but have the option for an additional "extended" battery.

As an anecdotal data point, I get 4+ hours on my X31 with a good battery, no wireless and moderate screen brightness.

Most reports on Linux battery life on these forums indicate a loss of battery life of between 30% and 50% as compared to Windows XP.

I'm getting about 2-2.5 hours on max brightness and wi-fi on with a super old battery with 27.9 whr left. Original battery is stated at
47.5 whr. So I think I can get 4 hours with wi-fi on and max brightness. This is on winxp and clocked at lowest, 600 mhz.
I love thinkpads

can you clarify this point a bit? are you referring to the extended battery available for the ultra base? or is there something else? thanks

The extended-life battery clips on the bottom of the X3 (when you are not using an Ultrabase!) and adds about three hours of battery life.

As I recall, the FRU number you need is 02K7041. These are usually readily available on eBay as well.
