bluetooth antenna, use wi-fi antenna?

#1 Post by boon » Fri Mar 02, 2007 11:38 am

While trying to look for antenna for bluetooth and cdc, I came to found out the bluetooth antenna is just another wi-fi antenna type 2, and I wonder if this is correct?

Correct. Some people just use the AUX antenna from the WiFi. WiFi only uses one antenna at at time, supposedly the one with a better signal. Some laptops only come with one antenna lead to begin with (a few Dell models come to mind...)

ah ok got it, thx. it is great to know as the cdc itself is costly enough if having to buy an extra antenna, as I do have an extra wi-fi antenna that I could use.

how can that be possible? the aux wire is too short to reach to the bluetooth board.

you don't always have to connect antenna to the lcd.... it could be anywhere in the laptop as long as it have enough signals

It may vary by model, but on the X23 & X24, you can reroute the AUX connector by slipping it back to the right hinge and then down to the CDC card.

On X31 builtin AUX antenna lead is definitely too short (Mini PCI is located near the hinge cover) to reach BMDC card, so only way is to put another antenna somewhere, maybe under palmrest or so.

On X40 the bluetooth card is sitting next to the WiFi minipci. Using AUX for bluetooth is likely to work well.
