frequent wifi disconnections on X31..

#1 Post by marcster » Mon Mar 12, 2007 2:48 pm

Hey everyone..

I have a Thinkpad X31 and i recently installed the 11a/b/g/ Wireless LAN Minipci Adapter, and I've noticed that i get frequent disconnections as opposed to my old DLink PCMCIA card..
I have updated the drivers..any suggestions? Thanks! :)

What program are you using for wireless management? Access connections or the one that comes with Windows? AC 4.23 has been reported to have some issues ... try rolling back to 4.21 or use the windows service for a while and see if it improves things. You can also try to disable the power management as described in this thread:

Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU

Rules of the road :thumbs-UP:

Is it an intel or atheros card? For atheros, I have been using Atheros Client Utility to manage wireless connections in XP on my T42 with no stability issues.

As gator pointed out, if you are using AC then it's worth trying XP WZC.

This is a generic one. It's a stable version that I have been using for a long time.

haha okay..i think i spoke too soon..it appears my connection does still drop :*(

ive tried installing the latest drivers from ibm this time..and with access connections v4.23 with the same problem..

do you guys think this is software related, or perhaps the antenna inside the x31 needs adjustment?

hmm..

OK, a fundamental question: how many wireless networks are visible to you? Is the access point/wireless router your own, or your company's/someone else's?

Dear marcster,

i had currently bought a X40 and had terrible disconnect issues when copying over the network, always dropped out.
This occured with my Linksys WRT54GS v1.1
I figured out how to get it stable.
I set the CTS Protection Mode to 'Enable' and Frame Burst to 'Disable'
I have never dropped since!

I hops this helps for you too!
