40 hard drive into an external (updated)

My x40 has had issue with charging (I have to pull on the adapter at certain angles) so I have been using it unscrewed. A week ago I dropped it and now it won't spin up the hard drive. I'm not sure if its the motherboard or hard drive that is the problem. I have a 2.5 external so I popped out the drive (a fujitsu) and then put in the hitachi travelstar, but I got nothing. I then tried plugging in the fujitsu into the motherboard with no luck either. I know the fujitsu is ata-6 and I believe the travelstar is ata-5. Does anyone know the problem? I really just want to get data off my travelstar.

So I have the following questions:
If I put the hard drive into an external mount could I access the files with another computer despite having a hard drive password on?

Additionally would the 1.8 hard drive work in a normal 2.5 mount? (the hard drive fits, but does not spin up right now, I am considering freezing it)
