X23 Ubuntu

#1 Post by icebag » Fri Mar 23, 2007 7:14 am

I have just bought myself an X23 with media slice -- it's a lovely machine! I want it to run Linux.

I freshly formatted the hard drive and booted up Xubuntu from a live CD. This worked fine.

I then clicked on install. I got through several pages of dialogue but the process stalled immediately after I set up username and password. I repeated the process with exactly the same result.

I then tried vanilla Ubuntu. After about an hour of listening to the CD whirring intermittently I powered off. Repeat the process: same result.

The X23 has 128Mb and a 6Gb hard drive -- not great but within the spec for Ubuntu.

Ubuntu is supposed to be a breeze to install on X-series machines. Does anyone have any ideas?

Did you check the installer CD with Ubuntu to make sure there were no defects? If the liveCD doesn't work, you could always use the alternate install disk and install Ubuntu using the old-fashioned text-based installer.

Thank you. I have done that and it works a treat. (It seems the live disk does have a higher memory requirement (192Mb) during the install routine.)
