IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter

#1 Post by whickman » Wed Sep 29, 2004 5:06 pm

How can I determine if my x40 2382-1GU already has the IBM 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter? Can this adapter be installed without difficulty?

Look here for the detailed specs of your system:

Seems to me the machine has an Intel 802.11b Wireless mini-pci card.

Another way to check what kind of card (if any) was included in the system, is by looking in the device manager under network adapters. You should see a listing there for a wireless card. For example, I have an a/b/g adapter in my computer and the device manager lists it as 11 a/b/g Wireless LAN mini pci adapter.

To get the a/b/g card, you will need to buy it from IBM or some other vendor and swap out the existing 802.11b card and put the new one in. Instructions for upgrading the mini-pci are here:

Yes, the device manager lists the Pro/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter. So I'm assuming I can get the 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini PCI Adapter. I'll go for the swap. Thanks for the info!
