Mysterious user account on my X31

#1 Post by gator » Tue Apr 10, 2007 5:53 pm

I saw something strange on my X31 today - a user account that I had not created. It was named 'Microsoft ASP.Net' (sic) and was a limited, password protected account. I am 100% sure I did not create it, and I am the only user of my laptop.

Anyone had similar thing happen befoe? I ran a detailed , complete virus scan with my corporate McAfee on the entire HDD and (not surprisingly) it did not find any infection. Is this a virus of some sort? I promptly deleted the account, but now I am afraid I may have had a virus and need to scan all computers I use -

Any info on this is appreciated.

Glad you found it. The account has been around for a while. You can disable it, but it prevents certain Microsoft functions if you do.

I complained loudly to Microsoft when it first appeared (some years ago). They certainly don't want their minds cluttered with facts, and did nothing.
