x31 Questions

#1 Post by det922 » Thu Apr 26, 2007 7:44 pm

i just got a x31 its quite a different machine to get used to, i was wondering about the Dock II and what videocards have been known to work, (i saw an x1300 low profile that was getting good reviews) hopefully it could work.

my second thing is the battery configs, i only have the extended life battery and i noticed that it could do the reg battery and ultrabay batt on the x3 slice but i also noticed that there is one onthe bottom of the slice so i was wondering how many batts can it hold?

i may have more q's later but for now this is all im wondering about, thanks guys

Well I used the dock I and tried to get the 9200 ati card to work and it's a pain for me. not much driver to support the dock other than the card driver. I do want to throw the dock away.

The ultrabase x3 is much better IMO a bit more portable. You can either use ultrabase x3 with 2 main battery, or no ultrabase with 1 main and 1 extended on the bottom. Can also hold another battery in the dvd slot if you buy the ultrabay 2000 battery. That makes max 3 batteries :)

Can you tell us more more about your experience with 9200 and dock please. BTW considering purchase of Sapphire 9250 PCI to use it in dock in dual display setup with A31p and X31.

I second the vote for the Ultrabase -- but if the OP needs a second (or faster) video card, then the Ultrabase will not do anything for him.

I looked at getting a Ultrabase battery but in the end decided that I didn't want to carry the Ultrabase around, so I have two standard batteries (which I can switch after hibernating) and an extended one, giving me all the battery life I need.

The problem is that whenever I put the dock I with ati 9200 SE in it and boot up the x31, the lcd of x31 doesn't work. If I set in bios to boot up the internal agp card, windows will boot up and freeze. If I set the bios to boot up with the PCI card, I will see nothing on the x31 lcd and only see windows on the external lcd.

I tried in many ways and there is no way to boot into windows with both the x31 lcd and the external to show windows, even if I disabled the agp card. It seems maybe I have done something wrong as none have mention any of the problem I have but getting it to work is frustrating.

also the ac adapter for the dock is just 3 prong cord, and the one comes with is only 6ft long. So the dock has to be very close to a power connector. and you can't use the dock on battery like the ultrabase.

I bought the dock in purpose of using the HDMI of a video card ( HDMI port only useful in certain models) but since there's so much trouble I find the dock useless now. The 9200 ati I had it for awhile so it is another reason to buy the dock so it saved the cost for me to buy another card.

*notes: there is a review somewhere in this X series forum on the BFG nvidia card and the x1300 you should check it out. And based on their reviews, the video card is still not fully supported.
