2200bg and Linksys BEFW11S4 Problem SOLVED!

#1 Post by mpcook » Sat Apr 28, 2007 8:55 pm

Everything worked fine on my wireless network (various Thinkpads, various wireless cards) until I got an X32 with Intel 2200BG card. I cannot connect with it to my Linksys BEFW11S4 router if WEP is enabled. It is fine if WEP is disabled. I have tried all sorts of things, including various drivers from both Intel and Lenovo for the card. The router firmware is the latest. I have tried bith with and without Access connections (latest version). Nothing seems to work except disabling WEP.

Any ideas?
Thanks

MPCook

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 and had the same problem. I found your post through a google search. I was pretty dismayed when no one answered. I spent about 4 hours working on this darned thing. Finally, out of desperation, I tried Yahoo Anaswers. It pointed me to this page:

http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportfor ... e.id=29747

Basically, check your driver version. If it's newer than the 9.0.4.17 then it has a problem. I uninstalled the nic card, and then reinstalled it w/ the 9.0.4.17 drivers and it works fine. Now it won't pull an IP address through DHCP. I'm sure that's just a network setup issue on my end though.

Let me know if this fixes it, or if you wind up in a similar situation.

Hope this helps

-Russ

PS I hope I didn't breach ettiquette posting this on a thinkpad board when i've never owned one....

Also...did you try removing AC and let Windows do the connection?

This is basically double-posting.
We have dealt extensively with this problem in this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=41765

MPCook needs to get rid of his antiquated gear.

Well, a couple of comments...your "quote" above is edited poorly, I did not say "I was pretty dismayed when no one answered", that was someone else. Even when I get no replies on this board, I don't complain -- I have gotten lots of good advice here.

Second, this is not double posting. This post asked for a solution to get the hardware working together. My other post (which followed) was to ask for a recommendation for a router that others have gotten to work with the 2200BG card, since no one was able to come up with a solution to the 2200BG / BEF11S4 problem. So far, no one has given me a solution that gets this hardware to work together (I have tried lots of things). So I am taking advice from the other posting and will try a new router, although there was not a consensus there even on whether a new Linksys will work with this card.

And finally, my "antiquated" gear includes 4 T23's plus several X3*'s - I don't suppose you would suggest everyone here get rid of those antiquated machines as well? You're the only one to suggest my gear is antiquated and should be gotten rid of.

Sorry guys, I was only trying to be helpful. I saw this post and saw it wasn't answered. I found good info, so joined the board specifically to post that answer.

Didn't mean to fan any flames here...

Hey don't worry about it. I greatly appreciate your helpful reply - I am trying to track down the earlier version of the driver you mentioned. One more try, maybe it will work.

Thanks! :D

Hello Russ! I found the earlier version of the driver and installed it, and my wireless with my antiquated Linksys router now works fine. Thanks so much for taking the time to help me solve this problem. Drop me an email if you ever get to Cincinnati and I will buy you dinner. You have saved me mucho time and money.

Take it easy

It's funny you should say that - my wife is a Steelers fan and I am a Broncos fan - she grew up in Pittsburgh and I lived in Denver for 15 years. We will avoid the sports bars for sure! I hopew my neighbors don't read this.

But I'm glad you still got the 'oldie' working.

Apology accepted and also reciprocated. No point in arguing about the small stuff. Next time I am in Ireland, I will buy you a couple of what I suspect is the real black stuff, can I assume it comes in pints and is"...for health"?? (My wife is an O'Neil and we hope to get there in September for the festivities).

Best regards,
Mike

Your suspicion is correct, RBS = Guinness, and comes in either a pint or a glass (term here for 1/2 pint).
I appreciate the intention, but have to give it a miss, as I am moving to Pennsylvania by the end of August.
'Festivities' is rather vague here in 'party-land', see this list of major events in Ireland:

If you are interested in family heraldics (e.g. O'Neil or O'Neill), visit this website that I made and maintain:
www.houseofnames.ie or visit their shops in Dublin.
