X31 Issues - Dim LCD corner?

#1 Post by Subliming » Sat May 05, 2007 1:50 pm

Just got a very nice condition X31 recently and like it quite a bit, best notebook I have owned thus far :D

I have however noticed a couple problems with it and am not sure if they are easily fixed or not...

The LCD is in great shape, no dead pixels. But I think the backlight has a problem... specifically the bottom right corner is dimmer than the rest of the display. Its not a show stopper though. Is there something I can do to get that corner bright again or do I need to call it in?

Something else that I had to deal with but am not sure if its worth starting another topic for is the OS recovery discs I got with the machine... when I ran them and Windows booted up for the first time, it was all in Chinese! It seems I have the Chinese edition of the XP Pro recovery discs. Is there some way to convert them to English?

Apologies for the long winded post

This is rather common problem of notebook displays. Probably related to backlight source with only one lamp.

Ah I see, so there really is nothing I can do as it is caused by a physical problem with the CCFL I take it?

Think Lenovo will replace it? I think the last time I dealt with a warranty issue concerning a laptop was with Dell and some hot pixels on an LCD... I was told that its within manufacturing tolerances and I have to live with it :(

I will be very surprised if they would.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.
