help: x40 "lazy" from resuming when standby

#1 Post by dorin » Sun May 06, 2007 4:24 am

hi there,

ok, this problem is driving me nuts...whenever i resume from standby the x40 needs something like 30-40 seconds to finally wake up.

after i press the power button, the hdd blinks for half second, then it spins for those 30-40 seconds and after that everything comes back to normal.

any ideas for to fix this?

thanks,

dorin

Hi Dorin,

Do you have the latest drivers installed? Also, what programs are possibly running (or on the background) before suspend?

Its very long. My TP is ready to work after 2-3 sec. I agree, its clever that u have to get newest drivers. I care about it. I have similar problem - when i get welcome screen in xp and i type the pass it take about 30 sec to start logging and preparing windows to work. I think this is due to winshit. I heard about bootvis, but i dont know how to read the charts in this programm. Any suggestions?

i do have all the updated drivers, before this wasn't happening. even with fresh install same thing...even docked or not (on ultra bay i have a cloned image of windows)
i prefer standby over hibernate from the point of view that from stanby is faster to resume...well, not anymore for me...

do you have power manager set to turn hard disk off? By setting that
it usually takes couple seconds for the hard drive to start spinning again, even without putting on standby.

I had this problem with an X24 when I had a PC Card installed. Have you recently ihstalled a PC Card? If so, try removing it (or disabling it).

Dorin:

Anytime that this has happened to me it ALWAYS turns out to be network-related. Have you recently mapped any network drives? Installed any software that uses the network or phones home for updates?

My last go-around with this problem was caused by National Instrument's Multisim, an electronic circuit analysis package. After I installed Multisim it would take the machine almost 60 seconds to resume from standby instead of the normal 3 - 4 seconds. Turns out that Multisim installed four or five networking services that go out and look for other PCs running the same program, look for time servers, etc. These services were too dumb to realize that you shouldn't start looking out on the network until after the adapter has established a wireless connection. The people who wrote the software must not have considered that some users may install it on a laptop. I disabled all of the networking services that Multisim added and my laptop started working correctly again.

Any recent changes related to networking? Just a thought.
