SD Card Purpose?

#1 Post by jeff the Trojan » Wed Oct 06, 2004 2:46 pm

What do people usually use an SD card for? I'm new to the SD, so my initial thought was putting the Windows page file on the SD (if possible) or having everything cache on the SD so the HD doesn't have to be accessed as much. I know people can use the SD on their PDA's and camera's, but are those the only type of uses? Is there a way to use it to increase the notebook's I/O performance?

SD Use

A few samples of SD card use :

- You take pictures with your numeric camera, and then put the SD in the slot to view/save to the HD.

- Save MP3 to the SD and use the files in a mp3 player or in car mp3 players with SD slot.

- Put Linux on the SD Card and boot (it's better to buy a fast read/write SD card as there are many models with many different speeds).

- Maybe put Windows XP on the SD Card and boot from it, but you may a big 1Gb SD card :=)

You could think of it as an over-grown floppy disk.
