X31 Screen Brightness Range
I notice the screen brightness range is considerably lower under battery than ac power. In other words, the maximum brightness under battery power (7/7) is comparable to maybe a 2/7 under ac. There are times when I can barely read the screen even at maximum setting when battery powered. Finding the cursor can be difficult. I’m willing to sacrifice battery life in these situations – otherwise the computer is not really usable. Is there some setting I’ve overlooked? By the way, screen brightness under ac power is fabulous!

If you still have the Thinkpad Configuration program installed, open it and click on "LCD" along the right column or "DISPLAY -> LCD" along the top row of drop down menus. Select "HIGH" for "Brightness when running on batteries".
Or go to IBM BIOS setup, under Config -> Display -> Brightness. Set it to HIGH.
