USB FLash Memory (Boot ?)

#1 Post by cybertof » Thu Oct 07, 2004 5:37 am

Hello !

Is it possible to :
- Copy the XP Installation ISO Image to a USB Flash Memory and boot from the USB Memory to install XP ?
- Make a WinXP installation on the USB 1Gb Flash Memory and boot the system from the USB Memory ?

Today there are 16Mb/sec read/write USB 2.0 Memory, it would be quite faster than the 4300rpm hd.

What do you think about it ?

Cybertof.

Not sure about the possibilities of installing form it but your biggest issue, although not impossible, will be having the boot process recognize the USB port (DOS drivers are needed) and then what's attached to it.

It's possible to boot off of a SD card though, right?

If your BIOS has the option to select the SD card as a boot source, I don't see why not. I have to admit though that I do not use nor have I any experience with an SD card.
