x31 (x32) EVDO compatible?

#1 Post by stkim » Thu May 24, 2007 3:43 am

Simple question. Is the x31 compatible with the current EVDO cards on the market?

As far as I know, any PCMCIA EVDO card should work fine.

If you're talking about an integrated EVDO card, like the one on the X60 (internal, mini PCI express) though, then it is a definite "no".

X60 1709-H6U (upgraded to 2GB RAM)

I've used both a Telus Network and a Bell Network EVDO card in my X31 over the past year. Both worked fine

Do Bell and Telus offer US roaming with the EV-DO cards? If so, how are the roaming costs?

Do Bell and Telus offer US roaming with the EV-DO ...

Yes. Roaming worked fine with both, BUT, and it is a big BUT, the costs were astronomical!!! My charges for roaming were close to a dollar a minute. Totally unacceptable, and both Bell & Telus said roaming charges were out of their control with EVDO.

I cancelled both accounts after a couple of months, and both cards will be on eBay very shortly.

The Ontario-Quebec coverage was excellent, speeds up to about 250kps in a lot of cases, probably averaged 150 most of the time, a few times connected at 80. Would still be using them if not for the roaming charges. Had a flat-rate account and so the monthly bill on each was about a hundred a month.

Regards. Dave

Thanks ... I think I need to investigate roaming charges in theother direction (with Sprint and Verizon cards used in Canada).

Yes. It would be much cheaper to get a U.S. account with their own cards. Good Luck.

have used verizon with their pc5740 (which appears to be manufactured by qualcom) for a year. I pay about $60/month for unlimited access/roaming in the US. The network does have excellent coverage.
