quick question: x31 power adapter question

#1 Post by stkim » Sun Jun 10, 2007 4:53 pm

i am wondering, will the power adapter for my t42p work on my newly accquired x31? the adapter that came with my x31 is a brick and if i can use my t42p adapter that would be one less thing to carry around.

thanks,

steve

x31 power adapter question

#2 Post by Danny Manabat » Mon Jun 11, 2007 10:41 am

i have a t42 2373 and an x31.

i have used the power adaptor of the t42 with my x31. i inquired from tech support about using the t42 power adaptor and was informed that i could.

no problems encountered.

any comments from other users?

You can find on the bottom of your TP what power is required, something like 16V, 3.5A. Then make sure that on the power supply the output voltage matches (16V) and the amperage is at least equal to what the machine requires (e.g. 4.5A is OK, 3.0A is not).

They switched the voltage (and the plug) in the T60 generation from 16V to 20V, but the majority of the older TPs have interchangable (16V) adapters, as long as the adapter can deliver at leasts the amperage that the machine draws. Note that using an adapter with lower amperage may appear to work fine, but it could be dangerous in some situations.

If you want to use a third party adapter, make sure that the plug (obvious) and the polarity also match. (The TP should have a little picture near the plug that tells you whether the pin in the middle is the - or the +)

thanks! turns out the power adapter for the x31 and the t42p have the same output, 16V and 4.5A so it looks like i'm safe. thank you, this saves me lots of hassle from having to carry both adapters in my accessories pouch.
