Installing 2200BG wi-fi adapter

#1 Post by Hobbsie » Thu Oct 14, 2004 9:42 pm

I bought a brand new Intel 2200BG mini-PCI wi-fi card for my X31 (2884-25U) and get the following message after installing it: "Error 1802: Unauthorized network card installed. Shut down and remove card." No matter if I install the software first then boot up or install the card first, I get the same result. I have read the readme's and they don't help. Is this a security issue? How do I get this thing working?

Every ThinkPad wifi card must be authorized by IBM, otherwise the TP's CMOS won't accept it. So buy one from IBM.

Search for this topic... there is a thread talking about a Bios hack that'll let you use it. I'm too lazy to seach for it now

Get this: http://jcnp.pku.edu.cn/~shadow/1802/no-1802.com

and get a bootdisk from here: www.bootdisk.com ( :o )

run the no-1802.com from the bootdisk, et voila. It will work with any mini pci wireless card you put in it. Even better is that even the FN-F5 stuff works with it because IBM altered how their software detects which cards to work with, although download the latest hotkey drivers to be certain.

I can confirm that it works too, non-IBM Intel 2200BG working fine in an X31 :)

it alters a little bit of data in the CMOS, the CMOS is something that can be restored easily anyway. If you left the bios battery out, the CMOS would re-set and you'd have to run the program again :)
