x31 wireless question (access connections related)

is there an interface besides access connections which allows me to control the video card? my x31 seems to connect to wireless signals automatically and i can't figure out how to turn the wireless radio off. access connections doesn't seem to be able to turn on/off the radio. and when looking for wireless networks it asks me first if i would like to turn the radio on even though i am already connected.

i would like to turn the wireless radio on and off as i choose so i can save battery life.
