Change maximum video memory in X41 tablet - is it possible?

#1 Post by IgGass » Sat Jun 30, 2007 3:16 pm

Hi!
I've run into trouble with some games requiring at least 128MB of Video RAM. Unfortunately, default setting for 915GM in my X41 is 96 MB, and there doesn't seem to be a way to change it (at least, not in BIOS). However, 915GM should support 128 MB, at least according to specifications. Do you have any ideas how to change maximum video memory size in this specific laptop?

My flatmaid has HP nx7400. It has GMA950 and it had max 128 shared memory. When he bought 512MB more ram (had 512MB), GMA has max 224MB of shared memory. It may be similar issue.

I don't think RAM is the issue. I've got 512 MB built-in and 1GB more in expansion slot. Also, as far as I know. 915GM contains GMA900, and not GMA950. HP nx7400 is newer model, apparently it has more advanced chipset.

Check that you're using the latest BIOS version. I think I remember that being one of the fixes, even if the description didn't spell it out clearly. The video RAM usage was being incorrectly reported as 96 MB even though it was actually 128 MB. If memory serves correctly, it was the most-recent BIOS update for Vista compatibility.

I've tried to update BIOS (I've got 2.01, while the latest version is 2.06), but it just won't run! I run update utility, which opens the update wizard. After step 4, it just closes and restarts the OS without performing any update. Do you have any clues why this happens?

IgGass:

There are a few suggestions on the download page for getting the BIOS update to install. The latest version is 2.06:
