Does the t23 recovery cd work with the x30?

#1 Post by Stevesoura » Mon Jul 02, 2007 4:23 pm

I was not sure where to put this but wanted to ask this. I am having some trouble finding a recovery disc cd for the x30. I do see a couple of T23 disc selling on ebay and was thinking if these will work. If anyone has one the can sell, even a copy of it please let me know.

I have used X31 disks for an X30, and also for T23 and X32. I was never able to track down a set of X30 disks (even on this board) but a number of people can probably send you X31 disks. I am traveling a lot so I can't do it for a while, but if you need them still in a few weeks, I can send you X31 disks for postage and cost.

Should work, although strictly speaking it's illegal.

I'm pretty sure they won't work. Recovery CDs are frequently backwards compatible but rarely forwards compatible. Think about it - when the T2x series was current, the X31 and its hardware hadn't been designed. So it's highly unlikely the T23 recovery CDs will have the newer hardware drivers from the X31.

However, the X31 is image compatible with the T40, so the T4x recovery CDs should work with it.

But I've tried using T43 recovery discs on a T60 and they worked, with only several drivers missing. I guess as long as you aren't skipping too many generations, it's fine.

Yes I have used the X31 disks on an X32 and a T23 successfully. Of course not all of the hardware drivers are there after using the disks, just run system update and they will all install and all will be good.

They'll work, I used my set on my X30 but they are old non service pack anything XP and you'll spend a good hour or two running updates.
T60p/x32/t42p/a31p and about 100 more 8)

The solution to the SP2 upgrade is to have the CD which I ordered from MS a while ago for (I think) $5 to ship. It has saved me many hours many times.

I got it when it was completely free of charge including S/H too. I agree it saves ample time. Since I'm on high speed LAN so I don't really use it however it could be a blessing for folks who are still on dial-up-internet.

You can download the SP2 upgrade to your hard drive, then install from there. I recommend this method - although Microsoft does not.
