#1 Post by bobdsmith » Sun Jul 08, 2007 6:37 pm

Hi guys.
Recently, my X40 fried. I want to recover the data on its hard disk, but I dont know how. At my disposal, I have:
A. Several Sun desktops that belong to college
B. Several destops that belong to college, friends
C. The dead X40
D. Brand spanking new X60s (coming in 2 weeks)
E. Friends X60 (will be used ONLY to hold data, control transfers)
F. Friends T20 (he may have meant 30 but typo'd)
G. Fairly old Dell Latitude unknown model
H. Dell Dimention 4600
I. 30$ + "local" fry's (45 min-1 hr away, havy traffic, last resort...plz work with other options before considering this)

I don't know too much about connectors and hard drives and stuff, so I'm hoping yall could help me...its kinda important I get this data before August...
thanks for helping

Given that your X40 is dead (won't start with a boot CD), then a good way now is to get a USB HD enclosure for the X40 drive. Plug it in and read the data from the drive. ... JDH

To be more specific... You will need a regular 2.5" usb harddrive enclosure, since the X40 Hdd connector fits on that. You might find a 1.8" usb enclosures, but make sure it doesn't use the ZIF connector.
