Some questions about X61 tablet

#1 Post by buzzman » Wed Jul 25, 2007 1:00 pm

I'm new to tablet pc's and I have a few questions. Some of them were already answered, but I heard different stories.

- Are the screens of the tablet pc's (for example the X61) more grainy than non-tablet notebook screens? Or is there no difference?

- I've heard of heat problem with the "normal" X60 and X61 (there where you put your hand). Is it the same with the X61? Or is it less warm because of the Low Voltage processor? Or could the problem be the Wlan card and not the processor?

- How good is the build quality of the X61? Especially the part where the screen is connected to the main part of the laptop (sorry, don't know the word in english. maybe it's called "hinge").

Thank you!

The primary cause of heat is the wireless card, as you guessed. Of the three options, the Intel 4965AGN appears to run the coolest, so if heat is your main concern, you should probably choose that one.

The past experience with X4 and X6 series tablet hinges appears to be very good -- I have yet to see anyone on these forums with loose or broken hinges.

I've see the X61 tablet on display in RCS Experience in New York, and though the single hinge is nowhere as near as sturdy as the ones found in the non-tablet models, it should suffice. IMHO, If you want sturdy hinges that will last for years, you'd best stay away from the tablet version..

Thanks for your answers!

The only reason for the tablet would be the better screen resolution, 1024x768 is really not enough for me.

But I have to see the notebook for real in a store before i make my decision
