Looking for pic of X31 next to a T2* series to compare size

#1 Post by braxx » Fri Jul 27, 2007 12:00 pm

Hello, fellow TP owners.
I'm interested in buying another TP ( It's addicting, I know ). I'm thinking something smaller would be nice. So naturally the X series is where it's at. Can anyone driect me, link me or post a pic of a X31 next to a T2* series?
I own a few T2* and I'd like to get an idea of how much smaller a X31 is.
Thanks,
Josh

Can't supply a picture of an X31 (only have this X22), but the system specs in this Adobe Acrobat file:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... awbook.pdf

lists the physical dimensions of both of the systems (T2x and X31).

Thanks for the responses.
From the PDF and pic's it appears there is only about 1" to 1.3" differance inthe depth and width and about 2.3lb weight savings. I wish the X31 was a little smaller.
Hmmmmm...
Ok. thanks again.

If you need smaller than the X31, you need to look at the X40/X41 -- or the X60/X61 series.

But at 3.6 lbs, the X31 won't exactly give you a hernia, either. :)

Indeed, my father uses my X30, and it is really light. I have owned an X40, and I absolutely loved the form factor. Unfortunately, I love to mod my stuff, and the upgrade path (or lack of one) on the 4200rpm drive bothered me.

Pics and specs are just that - pics and specs. In reality X31 will feel and look smaller enough to appreciate the difference. I had X30 and switched to X60s and while the size and weight difference is not exactly mind boggling on paper, in reality X60s makes X30 look like a fat overweight [censored] and any T-series will look like a behemoth (have T42 and T21).

That being said, I sometimes nostalgically miss my X30 for its sturdier handling.

Yeah, it might not look like much on paper, but the difference between an X and a T series is very noticeable. I started using a T40 and carrying it around with me every day, but that got to be a pain. I moved to an X30 and have been very happy with it. When you need to carry the laptop around with you often the form factor is much better. If you don't move around much the T series offers more screen space with the SXGA option and 14" screen.
T40 - 1GB RAM, 1.5GHz PM, Atheros WiFi, 40GB HD
X30 - 728MB RAM, 1.2GHz PIII, 60GB 7200RPM HD, Cisco WiFi
X31 - 1.5GBB RAM, 1.6GHz PM, 60GB 7200RPM HD, Atheros WiFi

I've always had at least one X (X22, X31 or X41) and one T (T23, T42p and now T60 - all 14" 4:3). It is always a difficult choice going with an X or a T as the primary and making the other the backup machine. At the desk the T series is vastly superior, but on the road the opposite is true.

With regard to the X series machines, each generation is smaller and lighter than the last, and while the upgrade path stinks with the X41, it remains my X series of choice (I can't afford to have a T60 and an X60s). The X41 doesn't match the X32 or X60s in most performance categories, but it is fast enough for all of the work I do (but not the play).

Recently I tried to go with an X31 to get more speed than the X41, but quickly sold it and went back to an X41, the size and weight are just much more handy despite the very small difference on paper.
