X31 Missing The software Manual

#1 Post by Dale Parfitt » Wed Aug 01, 2007 10:16 pm

Love my used X31 but it is missing the manual. My understanding is it is a software only manual. What would be the best method to get this? I do not have the restore CD.

Thanks,

Dale

What kind of manual? Have you ThinkVantage technologies files installed? I have not X31, but in these files there are a lot of informations on your machine.

And if you want to know more about hardware and how to repair it download HMM (Hardware Maintenance Manual).
For instance here:
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pccbbs/mo ... 9t6189.pdf

My understanding is that the only user manual for the X31 resides on the hard drive. I can find no lenovo or IBM files on the drive- other than battery maintainance etc. Pressing the Access IBM button does nothing- my understanding was that this should being up the user manual.
I am new to the X31 and so may be in error on this.

Pressing this button you can get to hidden partition on HDD where there are files neccessary for recovery your system to factory settings (after crash for instance). But you have used TP and this partition is probably deleted.
1) first have a look whether there is this hidden partition on your HDD (it is called "IBM Service" or similarly). Use Partition Magic or go Start - Settings - Administrative Tools - Computer Management - Disk Management;
2) if you see it turn off notebook, then turn it on and after you see logo press this blue button (TP Access) - you will get in hidden partition with recovery program, reinstall everything; if nothing happens the access to hidden partition is damaged. In such a case download this program and install it, then repeat all:

3) if you see no hidden partition you could get Recovery CDs at your IBM (in our country it is possible without problems; if TP is under warranty CDs are for free, if TP is not under warranty I pay some 25 USD).

If you have no hidden partition on your HDD or if it is not possible to get in, download program called "software installer" here:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... IGR-4ZKMCT

Install it and run. It will check your computer and install all missing drivers and software, automatically. You have to be connected to internet, of course.

Last word.
Software installer will NOT restore hidden partition. And some programs will be missing, f.i. burning program (Nero is better), DVD player .... but nothing important.
Restoration to factory settings (incl. hidden partition) can be made only with Recovery CDs from IBM when hidden partition is missing.

I checked my set of the five X31 Product Recovery CDs and none of them contain any software documentation.
