Value of a X24??

#1 Post by SaberX » Thu Aug 02, 2007 9:01 pm

I have a chance to buy a X24 system.
It has a P-III 1.13Ghz,256 ram,30 gig,NO media slice / docking station.
Battery is said to hold charge but not shure how long.Over all they say it's in great shape.
Also has the AC adapter with it.
They are looking for $200.00 with 30.00 for shipping.
Does this seem fair for the X24??

$230 shipped seems a little high to me. You don't get the dock and the RAM is low. I'm thinking that $180-200 shipped is more reasonable, assuming it is in fair condition.

If the condition is as what the seller claimed "great shape", I would go for it. Since not long ago (6 months ago maybe) I would still consider $300 for a X24(1.13GHz+AC adapter, no dock) in good condition a fair price.

Just looked again and someone has bought that X24.....
I realy like to find a nice X30 or X31 anyway.
I'm no hurry and soon maybe i'll just pick up a X30 and still keep the A22p. This will be a nice pair of Thinkpads ....

That difference of $12US can get you lots of goodies at CVS!

I'm assuming by CVS you don't mean Concurrent Versions System...

If you can spend a bit more, try to find a deal on a used X31. I have both an X24 and an X31. The X31 has built in wireless, USB 2.0 and Firewire so you can keep your PCMCIA slot free for something else. Once you have used USB 2.0 or Firewire, going back to USB 1.0 is unbelievably frustrating.

What would be the going rate for a used X24 say without the media-slice and no hard drive?
Also whats the going rate on a X30 or X31 without the media-slice or hard drive?

Watching on Ebay

#13 Post by rckrchrdsn » Thu Aug 09, 2007 10:26 pm

I have just switched over to using X31 from X24's. I have two or three of them and have run out of college-age nieces and nephews to give them to. So I have "watched" 15 recent sales on Ebay to decide if I wanted to sell them or find someone to give them to. The $200 is a fair price for a X24 in good to great condition and the RAM is not unusual due to standard configuration at the time of purchase. It might be a bit high, but on a good day on ebay (for the seller) you would get the $200 pretty easy.

The only issues with the X24, of course, is top-end memory at 640Mb, PC Card WiFi, and the USB1.1 ports. The USB can be fixed with a card, but not at the same time you are using WiFi. I did "upgrade" one of my X24's to use an internal WiFi card and put an antenna in the lcd cover where it is supposed to be, but it was hard to find the parts. I finally trimmed in an X31 set of antennas. Sorry, I digress. I still like them, but now I have the 2Gb I need for development in MS Studio.

I sold two on Ebay and got just a tad over $250 ea but with 640Mb. I kept the modified one. Just couldn't give it up. It goes on trips in the car with me and tells me where to go. Just like my wife.

An X24 works just fine for word processing, e-mail and internet. I happpen to be using my X24 as an Itunes server. It boots to Windows XP and runs iTunes all off a 2GB Compact Flash card. The music files are connected to an attached external USB hard drive. It is always on and works great.
