There was a topic some time ago about fan noise on the 1.2 ghz X40. It appears that about half of the respondents had an X40 where the fan turned on even with very low CPU activity. I'm in the market for a 1 ghz X40 and I'd like to hear from the owners how active the fan is.
I've owned a 600X (P-3 500mhz) and a X21 (P3-700mhz), both of which ran the fan all the time even with low processor activity, which I found very annoying. I don't want to take any chances with the 1.2 ghz X40, so I hope the 1 ghz X40 with it's lower wattage processor can operate without fan most of the time. Does anyone here have actual experience with these?
X40 1.0 ghz fan activity?
