X20 Market Price...

#1 Post by Quattro » Mon Oct 25, 2004 3:01 pm

I'm looking to buy an X20 in the next month or so. What is the market value for one in decent shape, used? Anything I should look out for?

Anyone selling?

Have you looked at eBay, I think I saw a couple going for about $300. I guess the biggest thing to look out for would be those not bootable due to unknown or forgotten passwords, they're most likely stolen.

What about a unit that boots to the BIOS screen? Does that mean password protected, or just no OS?

It's hard to say, maybe it's only getting that far because the HDD was removed as a boot route, I don't really know.

I think it's safest to ask the seller point blank...can you change all passwords available in the BIOS to blank before shipping?

Anyone else care to share some input?

X20 price

I have an X20 I bought used 2.5 years ago. It works fine. One hinge on the lid is loose and the modem doesn't work unless you wiggle the connector just right. Otherwise, it works great. I use it alot and it has never had any weird behavior that may indicate memory problems or other hardware issues. You might say it is "a little rusty but trusty." As silly as it sounds, I've become very fond of it because it's always ready to work hard. I will be looking to sell it in a month or so (as soon as I get my new machine and have everything configured and running properly). I'll probably give it to my mother-in-law if it isn't worth much.

600MHz
320MB
20GB
2 USB 1.1 ports
Ultrabase 2000 with floppy drive
Removeable CDROM in Ultrabase bay
CF 80211b wireless card
PCMCIA USB 2.0 card with 4-ports
Maybe some other incidentals I'm not remembering...

$450 seems fair to me given its demonstrated reliability and the included accessories. Let me know what you think.

Price is pretty high for stated condition and age.
