X31 - Recovery from CD - Hidden Partition?

#1 Post by phillyd2 » Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:29 am

Recovery CD (P/N 24R3274) on X31 - 2884JGU

System originally came with a 40 GB HD which was replaces some time ago with a 7K100 100 GB HD. At that time I used Acronis True Image to clone the 40 GB to the 100 GB. All worked but the IBM Hidden Partition was never cloned to the bigger drive. No big deal since I have the Recover CD.

Yesterday I used the Recovery CD to redo the larger HD for a fresh start but it looks like the IBM Hidden Partition was not created.

Does the Recovery CD usually create it?

The reason I say it did not create it is because in XP Computer Management it only shows one Partition and during system Start Up this is no option when pushing F1, F12 or the Blue ThinkPad button to run a restore.

Again, no big deal since I had the CD but I'm just wondering.

Thanks.

I've got the same problem as you, using the following recovery cds

XP pro english P/N 30R1209 (but on the first cd the P/N is 30R1212)

The system has been installed correctly on a new hd, but without a recovery partition (and yes, I tried also to recover on an Hitachi HD).
At that time I've understood that some of the recovery cds around are unable to create the hidden partition,

I've got recently a different copy ( XP Pro Engl SP2 - P/N24R8128) but I've not yet tried a fresh install yet. I remember being told that this one would have restored the hidden partition, and it's the main reason I took it.

If I remember rightly the X31 & Co. came with a version of R&R which was "very" hidden and can not be seen in drive management, you can change this in BIOS under; I think "start up F11 function", however this also disables the possibility to recover untill it's reset to default.
