Will this hard drive work on my X41 Tablet?

#1 Post by co1063 » Fri Aug 10, 2007 6:06 pm

http://www.parts4pc.com/newproduct/prod ... o=HDD-60GB

I'm thinking of buying this 60GB hard drive as an upgrade to my 40GB. Will this model work on my X41 tablet?

Thanks!

huh, wait i'm so confused. You're in a T4x series forum but you said "tablet". You have a X41 you mean? Since you're checking a 1.8" drive then i would assume so... :) I don't think that drive would work with your x system tho, you would need PATA drive not SATA.

oops sorry. i mean X41 tablet. my mistake.

but can anyone confirm that SATA will not work? I heard people mention that that the Travelstar C4K60 will work in a X41.

The drive linked to is indeed an ATA drive. The specifications at the bottom of the page are misguided, copied over from those of another Hitachi drive (120 GB, 5400 rpm, 2.5" SATA) with only minimal changes.

I'm not sure about the type of the connector though. (See Hitachi's specs page for the illustrations of ZIF and IDE.) That's another thing to check for in the X40 systems. Alarmingly, the page does not specify which type of connector it is.

Seriously doubt that the drive above works. For one thing, the price is wayyyyy too low. I've never seen a new 60GB 1.8" drive with ZIF connector for under $200. In fact, the best I see right now is $225 on eBay.

you can't judge it by the price. 1.8 drives are usually overpriced on ebay

Hitachi says the Travelstar C4K60 60GB is only available with an IDE connector (not ZIF) so I'm 99% sure this will work.

Can anyone confirm?

Thanks. I think they screwed up some specs on the parts4pc website as someone said earlier, but 60GB C4K60's are only available with IDE connectors as opposed to ZIF's, so I'm sure it will work.

Can't wait for tomorrow when my X41 tablet arrives at my door! (long time fan, first thinkpad)
