I have an X41 TabletPC on which I have swapped out the factory fitted modem card for the Bluetooth/Modem Combo card and have a question regarding disconnection of devices and location of the antenna itself.
I always found that Bluetooth promised so much and delivered so little in most cases but it is one of those things that I have to have!
The original Anatel 56k modem FRU P/N 39T0061 was removed and the new Anatel BMDC200 Rev B FRU P/N 93P3471 was fitted in its place.
For now the antenna was just routed through the 'trapdoor' on the bottom of the TabletPC.
While on the subject of antennas where/how do you guys mount them on the X41 TabletPC? Very little room in the 'trapdoor' and even less under the keyboard...not to mention the possibility of it shorting out...
Anyway I made sure that Bluetooth was enabled in the BIOS and when the TabletPC had booted (sloooow but a subject for another day) I pressed FUNC-F5 and switched the BT card on.
A chime indicated it had been found and a BT icon came up in the tooltray.
A quick look at Device Manager confirmed that I now had an entry for Bluetooth Radios with both IBM Integrated Bluetooth III and Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator - so far so good.
A quick look at the Options to turn Discovery On and Add device.
The BT card saw my Nokia 6310i which asked me if I wanted to Accept and then gave me the option to use/choose a Passkey which was entered into the handset and a beep confirmed all was well...for a second or so anyway.
The software then started to add a serial port but then the BT connection was dropped according to the 6310i.
Another auto-connection and a modem was added but then the connection was dropped about a second later.
The software continued on and said my device was ready to use but of course it wasn't.
Although I can see the 'phone as a device and the phone has an entry for Thinkpad they will not connect.
This is repeatable so thinking the problem might lay with the 'phone I tried a Nokia 6233, then an iPAQ 3850, then an iPAQ 2210 all with the same result.
Thinking it might be software related I checked out the IBM website seeing the 1ybm02ww package dating back to 2005 so left it where it was figuring it is probably the same as what I already have and took the newer 7jba08ww EDR package to update.
Installation seemed to go well apart from ending up with having two BT icons in the tooltray and the later, larger icon staying red and saying 'Device cannot be found'.
I uninstalled, tried to remove the original entries from Device Manager, reinstalled the updated package but no change.
I have tried Windows update and IBM Software Installer hoping it would find/install some working drivers but no joy there.
Have I missed something fundamental here?
Do I even have the correct card for the TabletPC?
Also where is the best place for the antenna be located on the X41 Tablet? It seems too much hassle to fit it into it's designated place behind the screen bezel and as stated above space is so tight under the trapdoor and under the keyboard - I am guessing I have the correct antenna?
Any help/tips would be much appreciated - thanks.
Don't even get me started yet on how slow it is - not helped by the 1.8" HDD I guess or how the once seamless IBM Software Installer doesn't work properly or...and...etc. etc. ;^)
It would be nice to get the Bluetooth sorted though...
